Are you insisting on a NATE-certified technician to handle your HVAC service and installation needs? More than half of your neighbors are, according to a recent consumer survey. Fact is, a growing number of homeowners are aware of the quality service and peace of mind provided by a technician who has proved his or her skill and experience by completing NATE’s exacting testing and certification program.
NATE, which stands for North American Technician Excellence, is a non-profit certification program for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. The organization’s strict qualification and testing standards mean that customers are assured that any NATE-certified technician they hire to attend to their heating and cooling system installation, repair or service needs has proved his or her ability to do top-notch work.
The consumer survey, performed by leading market research firm Decision Analysts Inc., questioned homeowners who purchased HVAC equipment or had existing equipment serviced over the past two years. The survey asked for feedback from those consumers on their level of awareness and perceptions of NATE certification. According to survey results, over half of these homeowners were aware of NATE certification, had used a NATE-certified technician, and rated that technician highly in terms of quality and confidence.
Seven out of 10 survey participants who had not used a NATE-certified technician, after reviewing the qualifications necessary to earn NATE certification, stated that they would be interested in using NATE-certified technicians in the future. Additionally, these consumers, when questioned, said that they expected that using NATE-certified technicians might cost as much as 11 to 25 percent more than the average uncertified tech. But they said they would be willing to pay that higher rate in return for the peace of mind of using a highly qualified NATE-certified technician.
